The weighted drop of the shoulders you get after a long, exasperated exhale, walking barefoot in the dirt, hand on heart, hand on belly, are what we consider off-mat Hatha practices. Standing your ground and being rooted without attachment to your beliefs is the essence of Hatha. You can expect postures to be held for much longer than flow, but not as long as yin. We recommend all beginners start here and suggest all the “pros” to revisit hatha as often as possible.
